John Lydon feels ‘a bit responsible’ for Sid Vicious’ death
Sex Pistols front-man John Lydon has said that he feels ‘a
bit responsible’ for the death of bandmate Sid Vicious.
John Lydon was speaking at the Cheltenham Literature
Festival where he was promoting his new autobiography entitled Anger is an
Energy. Lydon says he feels a sense of responsibility for what happened to
Vicious because he was the one who brought the bass player into the Sex Pistols
and the lifestyle that accompanied the band.
Vicious died of a heroin overdose in 1979. “He didn't stand
a chance” Lydon said. “His mother was a heroin addict. I feel bad that I
brought him into the band. He couldn't cope. I feel a bit responsible for his
death.” According to a report in The Gloucestershire Echo, Lydon then said “There
you are, I have confessed my demons.”
Lydon is now retreating to the Cotswolds to record his next
album.
